Tattoo Removal
Tattoos are a unique way to express art and individuality on the body. But why let a quick decision made at the beach, a peer pressure choice made in the service or the name of a long-lost love linger on when it can be harmlessly and effectively removed?
As the number of tattoo procedures have increased so have the number of people wanting to have their tattoos removed. Until recently, tattoo removal involved painful surgery or abrasive techniques which left permanent scars. Recent advances in laser technology have allowed lasers to easily remove most tattoos.
Because each tattoo is unique, removal techniques must be tailored to suit each individual case. For instance, professionally applied tattoos tend to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin at uniform levels. This uniformity allows the laser to remove broader areas of inked skin at the same depth. Homemade tattoos are often applied with an uneven hand and their removal may be more difficult.
FAQs About Laser Tattoo Removal
How does the laser work?
The laser emits a specific wave length of light that harmlessly passes through the skin and strikes the colored ink of the tattoo. The laser energy then breaks up the tattoo pigment and your body naturally absorbs the ink. Each pigment requires a different wavelength of laser light to disperse it. The process requires 7-10 treatments to fully erase the tattoo from your skin. These treatments are spread out 4 weeks apart to allow the body ample time to absorb the pigment.
Does the laser hurt?
The treatments can be somewhat painful, so we use topical anesthetics to help make the treatments more tolerable.
Will the laser erase all tattoos?
The laser works very well on black, brown, red, blue, and dark green pigments. Yellow and light green colors are harder to completely erase, though it is possible to fade them significantly. Both professional and amateur tattoos can be removed by this process.
Will there be scarring?
The new generation of lasers are Q-switched, which means that they are able to flash on and off rapidly. This keeps the laser from penetrating the dermal layers which reduces the chances of scarring. While redness and mild blistering are common, these effects are transient and usually resolve in two or three days.
How expensive are the treatments?
It is certainly more expensive to have the tattoos removed than it is to have them put on. You may, however be surprised at the affordable nature of laser tattoo removal. With our excellent financing options, it is easier than ever to have your tattoo removed.
